All Hikotron charging stations comply with New Zealand electrical safety standards (AS/NZS 3000:2018). Our equipment undergoes regular safety inspections and maintenance. If you encounter any safety concerns, please report them immediately through our app or contact our 24/7 support line.

Safe Charging 101

Your safety is our priority. Follow these guidelines for a safe charging experience.

Check the Port

Ensure there is no damage to the charging port on both the vehicle and charger before starting.

Proper Connection

Ensure the charging cable is securely connected to both the vehicle and charger before starting.

Emergency Stop

If you notice any issues, use the emergency stop button and contact support immediately.

Weather Safety

Our chargers are weather-resistant, so it is safe to charge in the rain.

Proper Connection & Usage

  • Always ensure the charging cable is securely connected to both the vehicle and charger before starting
  • Never force the connector into the charging port - it should insert smoothly
  • Wait for the cable to unlock before attempting to remove it from your vehicle
  • Store the cable properly after use to prevent damage
  • Do not use damaged or frayed cables - report them immediately via the app

Pre-Charging Inspection

  • Inspect the charging port on your vehicle for debris, moisture, or damage
  • Check the charging cable and connector for any visible damage
  • Ensure the charging station display is functioning and shows no error status
  • Verify that the charging station number matches the one selected in your app
  • Make sure your vehicle is properly parked and handbrake is applied during charging

Weather & Environmental Safety

  • Our chargers are safe to use in rain and light snow
  • Avoid charging during severe weather events when possible
  • Do not use chargers that are submerged in water or flooding
  • In extreme heat, charging speeds may be reduced to protect battery health
  • Keep the charging area clear of ice and snow for safe access

Emergency Procedures

  • If you smell burning or see smoke, press the emergency stop button immediately
  • In case of electrical shock, do not touch the person - call emergency services (111)
  • If the cable becomes stuck, do not force it - contact support via the app
  • Report any sparking, unusual sounds, or error messages immediately
  • Keep the emergency stop button accessible at all times during charging

Do's and Don'ts

Do

  • Read your vehicle's manual for specific charging instructions
  • Ensure your vehicle is in Park with the parking brake engaged
  • Keep children and pets away from charging equipment
  • Use the Hikotron app to monitor your charging session
  • Report any safety concerns or equipment damage immediately
  • Follow posted instructions at each charging station

Don't

  • Never attempt to modify or repair charging equipment yourself
  • Don't leave the charging cable on the ground where it could be a tripping hazard
  • Never use extension cords or adapters not approved by the manufacturer
  • Don't charge if you notice any damage to your vehicle's charging port
  • Never touch the charging connector pins with your hands
  • Don't block access to other charging stations or emergency equipment
